they are massive trees often with an umbrella-shaped crown
needles are persistent in bundles on brachyblasts (similar to larch)

the fruit is a pine cone, upright, crumbling, ripening in the fall of the second year
The name cedar comes from the Greek word "kedros" which means "resinous wood"
The cedar genus includes four species:

Cedrus brevifolia
Cedrus deodara
Cedrus libani
