  • they are massive trees often with an umbrella-shaped crown
  • needles are persistent in bundles on brachyblasts (similar to larch)
  • flowers bloom in autumn!
  • the fruit is a pine cone, upright, crumbling, ripening in the fall of the second year
  • The name cedar comes from the Greek word "kedros" which means "resinous wood"
  • The cedar genus includes four species:
    1. Cedrus atlantica
    2. Cedrus brevifolia
    3. Cedrus deodara
    4. Cedrus libani
