Habitus

  • higher shrub up to 15 m
  • crown is spherical, irregular, thin, leafy mainly around the perimeter
  • branches are crooked, fragile !
  • bark in youth is brown -gray, later gray, coarsely netcracked bork

Buds

  • they are built after a spiral
  • they are elongatedly conical
  • packaging scale is one, brown to gray – brown

Shoots

  • they are weakly square, gray - yellow, shiny
  • older branches are brown, fragile - brittle !

Leaves (assimilation organs)

  • leaves are simple, lanceolate, long tossed, 7 - 16 x 2 - 3 cm large, along the edge they are serrated, widest in the lower third !
  • upper side is dark green, shiny
  • back side of the leaf is lighter blue
  • stalk is up to 2 cm long

Flowers

  •  Dybonomous wood
  • flowers are catkins
  • it blooms in April simultaneously with the development of leaves respectively  just before the leaves are developed

Fruits – seeds

  • the fetus is a capsule
  • capsules are arranged up to 8-10 cm long teddy complies
  • they ripen at the end of May to early June

Extension

  • the original extension is difficult to determine
  • throughout Europe, except for the cold Nordic, Atlantic and Mediterranean parts of Europe
  • it is also widespread in Asia Minor and Caucasus
  • it grows especially in mountainous areas
  • in Slovakia along watercourses from lowlands to 900 ( 1,300) m above the sea level
  • It does not grow naturally in the floodplain forests!

Ecology

  • it is distinctly light loving tree
  • it  tolerates floods and fluctuations in  groundwater levels
  • worse tolerates stagnant groundwater
  • it is resistant to cold
  • it grows in frost basins

Significance

  • Like white willow – it is important for water management, strengthening the banks of watercourses
  • amelioration
  • from the heads of the willows are obtained twigs for various purposes (production of wicker baskets, ...)
