Habitus
it is a low dwarf bush
its branches and stems are recumbent, rooting

leaves are simple, oblong to broadly ovate, glabrous, 12–50 x 0.5–1.5 mm in size
they are wedge-shaped at the base, weakly serrated in the lower half, marginal at the
apex, obtuse to shallowly cut out at the end

Extension
it is originally widespread in Central and South-Eastern Europe in high
mountains, especially in the Alps, Carpathians, more rarely in the Apennines and in the north of the Balkan Peninsula
in Slovakia, it grows mainly in the Low, Western, Belianske and High Tatras, in Malá Fatra and Babia Hora
it inhabits mainly subalpine and alpine forests and paved rubble just above the mountain pine zone at altitudes of 1,800 - 2,300 m above the sea level
it is most often found near springs and lakes
Ecology
it grows on acidic, shallow and stony soils
Significance
willow is an important pioneer, soil protection and amelioration tree species of alpine areas
in orchard growing, it is mainly used as a rock garden
it is protected by law, endangered species (EN)
