the fruit is a cone, 8-12 x 10-15 cm large, oblong-cylindrical , light brown, resinous
seed scales are folded, irregularly toothed at the end, thin, flexible
ripens in September of the first year
the seed is ovoid, 3 - 4 mm in size, brown, spoon-shaped, placed on a 10 - 12 mm long membranous wing

North American continent – Rocky hills at altitudes from 1,500 – 3,300 m above the sea level.

Ecology
semi-shade to sunny woody plant
in Slovak conditions completely frost-resistant
undemanding to the soil, it tolerates drought and exhalates
Significance
in ornamental horticulture, especially its colorful forms and shapes
with regard to resistance to immissions, it can be used for planting in urban environments
when creating urban greenery
as a Christmas tree
the public often uses the wrong term to describe the prickly spruce - "silver fir"
